It’s been a while since i post a review about anything, i know. Not because i haven’t tried anything new, i have, lots of them. It’s just that i have been busy with work. But last week my colleague gave me an Otterbox Commuter for iPhone 5 for me to review and i owe that much to him.
So, what i have on my black iPhone 5 is the Otterbox Commuter in grey / white color combination like this picture here.

You can probably just go to Otterbox website at www.otterbox.com to find the detailed spec and all their marketing stuff, but in essence it is a double case with thick rubber-like material that covers your iPhone and a solid plastic based outer case that hugs the rubber.
The rubber inner layer is thick and will provide good cushion for any fall up to 1 meter high. I have tested this when i accidentally dropped my iPhone yesterday morning. More on this later. My iPhone survived the drop. However there are some little details that i think have been missed. First is the thin part right below the home button that runs across the bottom of the case. This part feels too thin, flimsy, and can not stay in shape. I will try post some pictures more but since i am posting this while in the gym, so please excuse me. The second thing is the marking from the moulding of the rubber is left unfinished, or in visual it looks rough. It’s like those little cheap plastic toys where you can see and feel the part where the parts joined together. Bad cosmetically.

But the major flaw for this case is not those little details, not the thickness of the case (it doubles my iPhone thickness), not the weight (it is heavy for me) but the choose of the material. Let me explain.

See that white part on the image above? That is the plastic, and it is damn slippery. Combined with the weight, this made me accidentally dropped my iPhone yesterday. It would be better if the rubber part is at the lower part of the case and not like it is now. We grip the phone on the lower part, the slippery plastic, and that makes it, well, prone to accidental drop.
**Bottom line:**
It will protect your phone but will also increase the possibility of you dropping your phone.
